Welcome to the Club

Life is better with a paddle in your hands.

What is Flatwater Kayak Club?

Flatwater Kayak Club is a woman-owned, Portland-founded business and a free online resource center for recreational flat water kayaking in the Pacific Northwest states of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

For us, kayaking isn’t just a sport or hobby – it’s a lifestyle. We’re not into reckless thrills or snobbish vibes – we’re about inclusive community, conservation-forward content, and kind, chill people who find joy in recreational kayaking and want to restore and protect nature.

We all start somewhere, and this site is focused on beginner and intermediate-level kayak content in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Our free, curated kayak resource library focuses on connecting kayakers with the great experiences they’re looking for on the water, with tips & advice from experts in the field, reviews of our favorite flatwater kayaking routes and guided tours, epic wildlife observations and conservation stories, and the newest kayak gear reviews.

So, welcome to Flatwater Kayak Club!

You found us, and now you’re one of us.

Bring your authentic self and a sense of adventure, and we’ll help you hit the water with some knowledge under your life jacket.

We’re glad to to be navigating this journey with you.

Why flatwater kayaking?

We’re forever searching for our newest favorite paddling spot in the Pacific Northwest, and we welcome the challenge, flow, movement, and experience of kayaking – just without rapids. Our paddling vibe is gentle-to-medium currents, light waves, and mirror-surface water experiences, and we love building cardio endurance through longer paddling routes.

Discover for yourself how flat water kayaking can help strengthen physical and mental strength and endurance, develop confidence, and build friendship and community – just like we did.

About our digital resources

We’re focused on delivering the best content on flatwater kayaking in the Pacific Northwest. Here, you’ll find a mix of product reviews, flatwater kayaking and paddling how-to articles, travel suggestions and tips, and inspirational photography.

Many sites out there in the digital kayak space heavily rely on stock images, generic paddling posts, and sometimes text-forward content with little to no media support at all – and we aim to be different.

Our reviewed kayak routes and guided tours reviews are paddled by our very own company founder, an American Canoe Association (ACA) member and former Nat Geo Wild writer, with authentic imagery and videos to support.

We’re a proud Business Supporter of nonprofit Oregon Wild.

We know how important it is to visualize a kayaking experience before you plan a trip. So at Flatwater Kayak Club, we’re about real people, real experiences, and real community. Check out our perfect day in Portland, Oregon for kayakers article to see what we mean.

As our flatwater kayaking articles, readership, and revenue grow, we also will be donating a percentage of business income to nonprofits focused on environmental conservation in the United States. We’ll post details when those milestones occur.

From time to time, you may find some sponsored content and affiliate links on this site, which may provide revenue for our site at no additional cost to you, and we’ll let you know when that’s the case (ads.text). We only recommend products that we use and enjoy.

That being said, we’re very selective about who we work with for sponsored content to keep our content as high quality as possible and ensure our partnerships align with our values. If you think you’re the right fit for website sponsorships, affiliate programs, blog partnerships & guest posts, send us a message and let’s talk more.

This website may contain affiliate links meaning if you purchase through my link, I’ll receive a small commission at no cost to you. We only recommend products we use and love. Thanks for supporting our small business!
